My approach to fitness has been shaped by movement, athletics, and most importantly my own journey of learning how to train properly with intention.
I grew up as a dancer, spending 15 years immersed in ballet and tap. From there, my love of movement evolved into running cross country and track. As I became more serious about running, however, a lack of proper training knowledge combined with the demands of high-volume athletics and inadequate nutrition eventually took a toll on my body. I experienced low bone density and multiple injuries that ultimately sidelined me from running.
That experience changed the way I thought about fitness. While attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst studying accounting and microbiology, I was introduced to a powerlifting club. I quickly fell in love with strength training and discovered how empowering it could be to build a body that was not only athletic, but strong and resilient. During college, I decided to pursue my personal training certification, beginning a career dedicated to helping others develop a stronger, healthier relationship with movement.
After graduating, I began working at a large luxury gym, where I continued to expand my education and experience as a trainer. Eventually, I transitioned into freelance personal training so I could provide a more individualized, high-quality experience and work with clients beyond the traditional gym setting.
Around this time, I began practicing classical Pilates myself as a complement to my strength training. I quickly noticed how beautifully the two methods worked together. Pilates challenged me to move with greater precision, control, mobility, and awareness, while strength training gave me the power and resilience to support those movements. That experience planted the seed for what would eventually become Plumeria Pilates + Fitness.
After moving to Florida in 2021, I completed a contemporary Pilates certification through STOTT Pilates. While I valued what I learned, I eventually found my way back to classical Pilates and felt drawn to understand the method in its original form. I went on to bridge into the Classical Pilates USA program, deepening my education in the traditional method and its system of exercises.
Today, I bring my background as a dancer, runner, strength athlete, personal trainer, and comprehensive classical Pilates instructor into one integrated approach.
I believe you don't have to choose between getting stronger and moving better. You can and should do both.
Plumeria was created to give clients the opportunity to experience the benefits of classical Pilates and strength training together: building strength, improving movement quality, developing body awareness, and creating a foundation for a capable, resilient body that can support you for years to come.
